Whenever I’m not exploring mountains or toasting myself under the heat of the sun on beaches, I would just prefer to lazily stay at home. Since I-can’t-remember-when, I have been fond of watching TV shows. These shows were highly recommended by friends. I came up to the thought of sharing the shows I’m watching/watched. Just felt like to. Here’s to the geeky side of me…
1. ONE TREE HILL
This is the first-ever TV show that I seriously watched. This is an American television drama created by Mark Schwahn and premiered in 2003. It lasted until Season 9. The story is about the lives of two half-brothers, Lucas Scott (Chad Michael Murray) and Nathan Scott (James Lafferty) who started as enemies and gradually became good friends. Then there’s this positive attitude in the character of Haley James (Bethany Joy Lenz) who is Lucas’ best friend and is Nathan’s love interest. Then there’s the emo artist, Peyton Sawyer (Hilarie Burton) who is Nathan’s ex-girlfriend and will become Lucas’ wife. And who will forget the strong and confident Brooke Davis (Sophia Bush) who is into fashion and is struggling to find someone who will love her. Oh, how can I forget their soundtrack, “I Don’t Want To Be” by Gavin DeGraw. This is a great story of family, friendship, career and love. Cried and laughed a lot of times. A must watch TV series! 🙂
“People always leave.” ~ Peyton Sawyer
“It’s not about what you say, it’s about what you do. You don’t like the person you’ve become? Then do something about it coz no one’s gonna do it for you.”
2. GOSSIP GIRL
The story is about this anonymous person who reports all things the elite does, people from the Upper East Side. The story evolves around best-friends, Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively) and Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester). The show is about the lives of rich kids and families, the struggle to maintain fame and authority, the battle of who’s the “IT GIRL”, countless scandals and the sacrifices just to belong. Also part of the strong casts are Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgely), who’s a smart-geek; Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick), the bad-ass and Nate Archibald (Chace Crawford), the golden boy. The story is exciting. Each character is unique and they were all played well. The mystery is the real identity of the anonymous gossip-er. Watch it and you’ll know it! Ended on the 6th Season. “I know you love me.” – xoxo –
“You can’t save the damsel if she likes her distress.”
“I am not a stop along the way. I am a destination.”
3. THE VAMPIRE DIARIES
This is a supernatural drama that takes place in Mystic Falls, a fictional small town that is haunted with uncanny beings. The story is about the protagonist Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) who falls in love with vampire, Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley). And as the series goes on, Elena finds herself engrossed to Stefan’s brother, Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder). But it doesn’t end there. Elena finds out that she has a doppelgänger named Katerina Petrova and the existence of the Original Vampire, all of which have evil plans. And since there are vampires, then there’s the witches, hunters, werewolves and hybrids. I love watching this show. It’s a bloody yet romantic story. The twists are surprising. It’s worth it. Unlike Twilight. Just saying. Season 5 will be aired soon. 🙂
“You should love the person that makes you glad you’re alive.” ~ Elena
“If we cease to believe in love, why would we want to live?” ~ Elena
4. GAME OF THRONES
This is one of the best TV series I’ve seen. This is an adaptation of the novel A song of Ice and Fir by George R. R. Martin. The HBO show is set on the fictional of Westeros and Essos. Seven kingdoms are fighting to have the Iron Throne. And then there’s this threat of approaching winter and the legendary creatures of the North. The series also includes social issues, sexuality, corruption, religion, loyalty, hunger for power, family, love, war, crime, violence, punishment, etc. And what really surprised me was the existence of dragons. Cool!! This series has received lots of awards and recognition. It deserves it. Every character is perfect! The plot, the location and effects are amazing. Don’t you miss watching it! Season 4 will be aired soon.
“Can a man be brave if he’s afraid? Well, that’s the only time a man can be brave.”
“What we don’t know is what usually gets us killed.” ~ Petyr Baelish
5. 2 BROKE GIRLS
This series is about the lives of two waitresses — Max Black (Kat Dennings), who comes from a poor family and Caroline Channing (Beth Behrs), who was born with a silver spoon and is now poor due to her father getting caught operating a scheme. Despite their differences, they become good friends and built their dream of having their own cupcake shop. Along with the casts are their boss, Han Lee (Matthew Moy); Oleg (Jonathan Kite), ecstatic but a little perv; Earl (Garrett Morris), a 75-year-old black cashier; and Sophie (Jennifer Coolidge), neighbor and who runs a housecleaning company. This is a good show to watch. Light and funny! It’s still on their 2nd season. I always recommend this show to my trainees for them to practice their accent.
“I just think society is way too concerned with other people’s idea of what’s pretty.” ~ Max Black
“Twitter is stupid and Instagram is Twitter for people who can’t read.” ~ Max Black
6. HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER
This is my break-up series. Haha! Am serious. When I started watching this show, I felt good about myself. I would stay up super late in the office coz I love hearing myself laugh at their smooth jokes and their awesomeness. It’s a simple story of how Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor), in the year 2030, recounts to his son and daughter the series of events that led him to meeting their mother. Ted has four crazy best friends; Marshall Eriksen (Jason Segel), who dreams of becoming an environmental lawyer, terrible in singing and has been in love with Lily since freshmen; Lily Aldrin (Alyson Hannigan), a kindergarten teacher, Marshall’s girlfriend, the group’s moderator, bad in keeping secrets and is quite fierce despite being cute and sweet; Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris), a serial playboy, seduces women with no intentions of committing in a relationship, has abandonment issues due to his father leaving him as a child; and Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders), a news anchor who emigrated from Canada, which is a source of many jokes from her friends. The show is unique. The every now and then cuts, and how they connect different scenes just to make the audience more engaged. Am waiting for the 9th and final season. Can’t wait to finally meet the “mother”. This show helped me a lot. It made me look forward to better things and gave me back my confidence, my awesomeness! I love Barney! 🙂
“When I’m sad, I stop being sad and be awesome instead. True story.” ~ Barney
“You can’t jump straight to the end. The journey is the best part.” ~ Robin
“Challenge accepted.” ~ Barney
From Season 1-5. This is a show about “fringe” science and investigative ways to examine series of unexplained events which are related to the mystery surrounding the parallel universe. The main casts are Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv), an FBI agent who is assigned to investigate the series of weird events and later discovers that she has unusual abilities; Peter Bishop (Joshua Jackson), is a jack-of-all-trades, who becomes a civilian consultant just to work with his estranged father; Dr. Walter Bishop (John Noble), a former government researcher in the field of fringe science who was seen as a mad scientist and institutionalized after a lab accident. The show is really interesting and made me think of the other “me” in the parallel universe. Or is it possible for me to visit the place or what kind of life does the other “me” has in there? But overall, the series is about family, love, friendship and the importance of knowledge.
“Sometimes the world we have is not the world we want. But we have our hearts and imagination to make the best out of it.” ~ Elizabeth Bishop
“Every relationship is reciprocal. When you touch something, it touches you, it changes you.” ~ Walter Bishop
8. THE BIG BANG THEORY
The show is centered on five characters living in Pasadena, California: roommates Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki) and Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons); Penny (Kaley Cuoco), a waitress and aspiring actress who lives across the hall; and Leonard and Sheldon’s equally geeky and socially awkward friends and co-workers, mechanical engineer Howard Wolowotz (Simon Helberg) and astrophysicist Raj Koothrappali (Kunal Nayyar). The geekiness and intellect of the four guys is contrasted for comic effect with Penny’s social skills and common sense. In this show, I was able to understand the world of super genius people. Like how they deal with others, how they react to different situations and how they think and solve their ordinary problems. And not to mention, their jokes are genius! This show is great! Season 7 will be aired soon.
“One cries because one is sad. For example, I cry because others are stupid and it makes me sad.” ~ Sheldon Cooper
“People say you can’t live without love. I think oxygen is more important.” ~ Sheldon
9. ONCE UPON A TIME
The show takes place in the fictional seaside town of Storybrooke, Maine, in which its residents are actually characters from various fairytales that were transported to the “real world” town and robbed of their real memories by a powerful curse of the Evil Queen, Regina (Lana Parilla), that she obtained from Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle). The town’s only hope lies with a bail bonds-person and bounty hunter named Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison), the daughter of Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Prince Charming (Josh Dallas), who was transported from the fairy tale world before she could be cursed. As such, she is the only person who can break the curse and restore the characters’ lost memories, aided by her son, Henry (Jared Gilmore). The entire series will show different fairy tale characters and how they are connected with each other. Lots of twists and you will get to understand the root of all evil. Hehe. Season 3 will be aired soon.
“When people are supposed to be together, they find a way.” ~ Charming
“Love makes people do foolish things.”
The series is set at the fictional law firm Pearson Hardman. It follows Michael ‘Mike’ Ross (Patrick Adams) after he stumbles into a job interview with Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht), who is searching for an associate. Specter hires Ross because despite lacking a law degree, Ross is undoubtedly the best candidate for the position. Ross has natural intelligence and photographic memory. Along with the casts are; Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres), co-founding and managing partner of Pearson Hardman; Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman), Harvey’s rival and junior partner who oversees the first year associates; Rachel Zane (Meghan Markle), a paralegal who befriends Mike and later becomes his girlfriend, she also aspires to be an attorney, but her test anxiety prevents her from taking the LSAT; and Donna Paulsen (Sarah Rafferty), Harvey’s legal secretary and close confidant. I love this show since I am a frustrated lawyer. And in here you will learn the inside stories that happens in a firm, the politics along with it, the competition between lawyers, the different strategies in winning a case, etc. This show is now on their 3rd season.
“I refuse to answer that on the grounds that I don’t want to.”
“Sometimes I like to hang-out with people who aren’t that bright. You know, just to see how the other half lives.” ~ Mike Ross
11. PRISON BREAK
An engineer, Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) installs himself in a prison he helped design, in order to help his brother Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell), a death-row inmate who insists he did not commit the crime for which he has been sentenced to die and help him escape. Lincoln is on death row for the murder of the vice president’s brother. He insists he’s innocent and only his brother, Michael, believes him. As an engineer who helped design the prison where Lincoln is being held, Michael takes drastic measures to help his brother. He gets himself arrested and sent to the same prison so that with his knowledge of the building the two of them can escape together. This is a nerve-wracking show. It’s up until season 4.
“Every time I got close to someone, I got screwed.” ~ Lincoln
“The worst prison would be a closed heart.”
An action-adventure TV series. It is based on the fictional superhero Green Arrow. It is about a billionaire playboy Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), who after five years of being stranded on a hostile island, returns home to fight crime and corruption as a secret vigilante whose weapon of choice is a bow and arrows. The question is, what happened to Oliver on the island? And why is he up for revenge? A must-watch series. Season 2 will be aired soon.
“When you shoot across the sky like a broken arrow, it’s so hard to keep yourself on the straight and narrow.”
Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp) comes to the Hamptons, renting a home next to the Grayson family to enjoy the summer. However, it is revealed that Emily has been to the Hamptons before, as a little girl. In reality, Emily is Amanda Clarke, whose father was framed for a crime he did not commit and sent to prison for life, and later murdered in the prison. She was permanently separated from him when she was a little girl and never saw him again. Now, she has returned to the Hamptons, intent on getting revenge on those who wronged her and her father. Now on its 2nd Season.
“They say vengeance taken will tear the heart and torment the conscience.”
I can actually go on and on. But nah. This is enough. I also watch Glee, New Girl, Switched at Birth, Touch, Friends, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, CSI, Grey’s Anatomy, Heroes, Criminal Minds, etc.
I got tired of partying every weekend. All the same boring routine. I realized I get nothing from it. So I decided to stay home and spend time with these great shows with my popcorn and soda. It’s a good way of spending my precious time!
Thanks to Google and Wikipedia for helping me with the information. 🙂
